چکیده

In this study, we aimed to determine the in vitro activity of Leuconostoc mesenteroides var. isolatedfrom sugar-industry effluents produce a dextran bioflocculant from sucrose as low-cost substrate.L. strains present residual cane juice sugar factory were isolated and biochemicallyidentified using Mayeux, Sandine, Elliker agar (MSE) selective medium. The strain number 3 (LM03) wasbiochemically identified L. mesenteroides, which was used for study. concentrationof quantified by dry weight, morphology purity evaluated Fourier-transforminfrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS). Flocculation via turbidimetric assays different pH ranges effluentsand doses dextran. To evaluate flocculant according effect pH, jar test kit Phipps Bird, USA, wasused with sample recollected effluent (sugar industry). samples adjusted 7, 8,9, 10 11, dose 40 ppm (dextran dose) at fast slow speed 150 50 rpm, respectively. Toevaluate influence dextran, values 5, 20 speeds 180–150rpm 30–50 respectively. The able highest concentration (26.87 g/L) 76 h incubation. Thepresence MSE after incubation characterized FTIR, SEM, EDS.Besides that, observed that best flocculation 9 40ppm agitation rpm 5 min 15 min, achieving 77.7% removal turbidity effluent.L. responsible bioflocculation

Preparation and characterization of dextran from Leuconostoc mesenteroides.

In conjunction with investigations on the a-l, 6-glucosidic linkage in starch, it was desirable to conduct comparative studies on other substances containing this linkage. The dextran from Leuconostoc mesenteroides, a polysaccharide having predominantly a-1 ,6-glucosidic linkages, was selected to be used directly in these comparative studies and to provide a source of simpler substances contain...

Characterization of the Dextran Produced by Leuconostoc mesenteroides from Date Fruit Extract

In the present study, the production of dextran from date extract and sucrose as carbon sources by the bacterium Leuconostoc mesenteroides NRRL B512 (f) was investigated. In comparison to blue dextran (Mw≈2000 Da), dextran molecular weight was reduced (Mw2000 KDa). Flow behavior indices of dextran solutions from date extracts were investigated and rheological parameters were evaluated at concen...

Leuconostoc mesenteroides Growth Kinetics

Bacterial profile modification (BPM) is being developed as an oil recovery technique that uses bacteria to selectively plug oil depleted zones within a reservoir to divert displacing fluids (typically water) into oilrich zones. Leuconostoc mesenteroides, which produces dextran when supplied with sucrose, is a bacterium that is technically feasible for use in profile modification. However, the t...

Production & Characterization of a Unique Dextran from an Indigenous Leuconostoc mesenteroides CMG713

On the basis of high enzyme activity a newly isolated strain of L. mesenteroides CMG713 was selected for dextran production. For maximum yield of dextran, effects of various parameters such as pH, temperature, sucrose concentration and incubation period were studied. L. mesenteroides CMG713 produced maximum dextran after 20 hours of incubation at 30 masculineC with 15% sucrose at pH 7.0. The mo...

Serological studies on Leuconostoc mesenteroides.

Following the recognition of four primary colonial types of Leuconostoc mewnteroies by McCleskey et al. (1947), Leiva-Quiros and McCleskey (1947) studied the serological relationships among strains of the four types. They employed glucose-grown cultures for the production of antibodies so the cell antigens could be studied without the complication introduced by the dextran hapten. Several worke...
